Furthermore, Dr. Ghude emphasizes that mist fountains are ineffective against non-water-soluble particles and gaseous pollutants. They do not completely eliminate these particles from the atmosphere, which means they may not be as effective as other solutions.

Despite these limitations, some organizations like Parisar have urged authorities to consider installing mist fountains in certain areas. According to Dr. Ghude, scientifically speaking, mist fountains are capable of settling dust particles within a limited area, primarily originating from sources such as construction and demolition activities.

In light of this, Parisar has asked the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) to develop guidelines for the installation and monitoring of mist fountains. These guidelines should include hard data on pollution reduction, cost-effectiveness, site selection, monitoring and evaluation, sustainability, and alignment with existing policies.

Meanwhile, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has floated a tender worth Rs 2 crores to install more mist fountains in various parts of the city. While this initiative may seem promising, it is essential to remember that scientific data supports the effectiveness of these structures only within limited areas.
